Tom came home finding himself unpleasantly surprised. When he walked into the hallway he found his flatmate Kevin standing just outside the kitchen seeking cover from plates being thrown into his direction. 'What the fuck is going on?' 'Lilly's gone mental!' Kevin replied, ducking away just in time for a mug, thrown onto the wall behind him. Tom ran towards the commotion and saw Lilly wreaking havoc in the kitchen, smashing plates, cups and glasses onto the floor and throwing things toward the opening into hallway. 'Stop it, Lilly!' Tom shouted angrily at her, but she didn't respond. 'I'm warning you, stop it right now!' Instead of calming down, Lilly threw another mug in their direction.

You My masterpiece
Marvellous wonder Made with all my love -child

I'm spellbound by your eyes tearing apart my heart with a searing look purposely killing everything in me burning my soul until all that's left are ashes
why do you not speak demon why keep your words hidden when I'm already yours soothe me with a verse - I beg you please I cannot bear this silence
I'm trying to withstand the deadly pull but failing the end is here reaching out from the darkness
see me stepping over I'm falling now though letting go  I still fear nearing you

One cold autumn night, a woman is found hanging from a beam in her summer cottage by Lake Thingvellir. At first sight it appears to be a straightforward case of suicide; the woman, Maria, had never recovered from the loss of her mother two years earlier and had a history of depression. But when Karen, the friend who found her body, approaches Erlendur and gives him the tape of a seance that Maria had attended, his curiosity is aroused.

Driven by a need to find answers that even he does not fully understand, Erlendur embarks on an unofficial investigation to find out why the woman's life ended in such an abrupt and tragic manner. At the same time he is haunted by the unresolved cases of two young people who went missing thirty years before, and, inevitably, his discoveries raise ghosts from his own past.
