‘I’ll never marry.’

Maggie Concannon is a passionate young woman, with a temper as bold as her art. She is determined not to end up like her
mother, whose bitterness is a mystery to both Maggie and her sister Brie. And so, on the night her beloved father dies, Maggie
makes her solemn vow not to marry.

But when international gallery owner Rogan Sweeney arrives on her doorstep in County Clare, Maggie soon has a battle on her
hands. Roagn’s interest in her work is purely professional, but there’s no denying the desire rising between them. And with an
old family secret coming to light, nothing will be the same again.

The book starts with an event that sets the tone for the rest of the story. The main character, Maggie, loves her father to bits and
at the end of the first chapter, he dies in her arms while being at a cliff in the freezing rain.

The relationship between Maggie and her mother is not okay at all to say the least, with her sister Brianna it’s fine, despite
blatant differences in character. Maggie is passionate, a loner, an artist, quick in wit and sarcasm. Her sister on the other hand, is
mostly cool, collected, caring, putting her other people’s needs before her own.

In the third chapter, Rogan, a Dublin art dealer, enters the story. He’s fascinated by the artwork of Maggie. He thinks it’s wild,
passionate and beautiful. Just like the artist as he discovers. The push and pull between those characters is not unexpected, but
funny nonetheless. Maggie has a sharp tongue, not willing to let go of any of her freedom, definitely not willing to let a man tie
her down. She doesn't want to end up like her father and mother, caught in a loveless marriage. For Maggie, there will be no
husband, no man to tie her down. She’ll love on her own terms, fleetingly, free. Well, you can guess what happens.

Rogan is a bit stiff, wealthy, used to getting what he wants. What he didn’t expect was to be entranced by a woman who
accepted him for a quick lay, but not willing to give him her heart, not expecting himself to give his heart to her. She was
everything he didn’t set out to find, wanting to be honest, but couldn’t let go of her either.

During the story we get to know more about the story between Maggie and Brianna’s father and mother, the tragic history, the
hurt both couldn’t let go of and the impact it has had, and still has on both siblings.

There are lots of ups and downs, clashes and reconciliations, but in the end the guy gets the girl, or the other way around, never
mind.

It was an okay read for me. A very quick read as well. I only found out after I started reading (silly me) that it is the first book
of a trilogy. The second book will center around Brianna, Maggie’s sister. I might try to get those other two books, but not at a
great cost. I believe you can read this book as a stand-alone.
